Squeeze Bottles and Containers: Important Labelling Considerations
Posted by : Mercury Labels Ltd on Monday, November 1, 2021 in Choosing Your Labels.
Branding and labelling a rigid bottle with a smooth surface is simple; at least, when compared to the challenges involved in using labels on a squeezable container or flexible pouch.
Products and containers like these bring additional complications and considerations into the mix. Even the most durable and hardwearing labels designed for rigid surfaces may be completely incompatible with squeeze bottles and pouches.
There are materials and adhesives available to suit even the most complex of malleable containers. From semi-squeeze containers where the change in shape is minor to those that alter radically in shape during use, you need the right labels for the job.
There are five important factors that needs to be considered when looking to label squeeze bottles and containers:
Flexible Labels to Prevent Peeling
The material the label is manufactured from needs to be flexible enough to cope with the demands of the container. Flexibility is essential, as the label will be subject to pressure in all directions while the product is being used. Rigid materials with no flexibility would simply rip or peel away from the surface as soon as the container was squeezed or bent. Some types of paper labels are suitable for certain types of squeeze bottles, while others may call for more versatile materials like vinyl.
Smoothness of the Surface
The smoothness of the surface must be taken into account, as this will affect the ability of the adhesive to form a secure bond. Some stickers are designed to work exclusively with smooth and glossy surfaces, just as others will only work with rough and uneven surfaces.
Container Contents Matter
One of the most commonly overlooked factors when selecting labels for squeeze bottles and containers is the content of the container in question. Depending on what is inside the bottle, it could have a major impact on the adhesion or integrity of the label upon coming into contact with it. Labels routinely come into contact with the contents of the containers they adorn, which could result in peeling, deterioration or degradation of the design.
Factor in Atmospheric Conditions
You need to consider where the squeeze bottle or container in question is likely to be stored and/or used. It may be necessary to store the container at room temperature, in a refrigerator or somewhere much colder where deep freeze labels would be required. It could also be exposed to high levels of humidity or come into contact with grease, acids or alkaline substances, in the case of some commercial and industrial products.
Every day Wear and Tear
Every day wear and tear can take a particularly high toll on squeezable bottles and containers; the more regular and aggressive the squeezing or manipulation of the materials, the greater the need for a durable label of the highest quality.
