Frequently Asked Questions
We do not apply any minimum order quantities to our customers; you can order as little as 50 labels right through to 1 million and beyond.
With regards to your labels, yes we can, we have several systems available for printing labels and in fact custom printed labels is now one of the larger sections of our company.
Printed product labels obviously come in many different shapes, sizes and finishes, for example, on a gloss clear label, or simply white or maybe you need a coloured background, it really does not matter to us what you need, with this being a bespoke service you can pretty much have whatever you want with printed labels.
Yes, we stock two main types of CD labels, both of which are compatible with the Avery labels layout L7660 and also the L7676 version. One of the layouts includes the case spine labels.
Our range of CD labels are available in standard matt white finish as well as gloss for laser printing and photo quality gloss for inkjet printing. Coloured CD labels are also available as an off the shelf item in over 14 different colour variations. In addition to normal permanent adhesive and hi tack adhesives, we also stock our CD labels with a low tack adhesive for easy removability form the CD it's self.
By its nature glass is a very difficult product to remove adhesive from, many companies have had problems with their labels leaving residue on the glass.
Over a number of years now we have been developing and improving our Glass Easy Peel range of Low Tack Labels and also cling grade labels which adhere well to glass but do not have a residue problem when they are removed. We have several strengths of low tack labels, the adhesive ranges from standard removable, to super peel and also Glass easy peel, all the label products are suitable as glass labels but we always like to test which one is most suitable for you, depending on what type of glass your products are produced from, sometimes toughened glass or coated glass may require the super peel or the glass easy peel labels.
So to answer, yes all the low tack labels we offer are great for this purpose and have been specially designed for this type of application.
Yes you can. PDF templates and also Microsoft Word templates are available to you by email for all Avery label types and also all the PCL labels range. Whichever range of labels you order from us more often than not we can supply a template in one or both of the above mentioned formats.
Some Avery labels already have an Avery label template set up in MS Word, you will find this in the envelopes and labels section of the programme, follow the link that takes you to a section called Avery labels A4 and A5, you will find all the Avery L and J codes there ready to use.
PCL labels are a large range of labels that we supply, these labels come in many different shapes and sizes, and therefore PDF templates can be downloaded or simply emailed over to you as requested.
Of course, plus many sizes from stock too.
The clear sealing labels have a perforation across them for those times when an item needs sealing, and for ease, requires opening without the label actually being removed, the item can then be opened via the perforation on the clear seal without removing the label itself.
Another useful element of the perforated clear seals is that the perforations on the label can also be used to help reduce tampering of the product itself, thus also being a great tamper proof label. Clear seals and see through labels are inexpensive items that give a professional image and a great finish to the end packaged product.
Please find a listing below of the clear sealing labels we supply from stock:
GC1W25DIA/MP - Mini pack of 1,000 Clear Sealing Labels

The sprocket fed label stock range is supplied with a permanent adhesive but we can also produce the computer labels in a range of adhesive types, such as low tack where the label needs to be removed without leaving any glue residue, a high tack adhesive option, which is an extremely aggressive adhesive that makes the label impossible to remove or a freezer adhesive whereby the computer label needs to withstand certain temperatures.

The adhesive on some of these water and weather proof labels have a British Standard adhesive (BS5609), these products are tested in marine conditions ensuring their durability for being used outside. Yes we can.
We already have thousands of cutters and tools available to produce A4 labels for both Laser and Inkjet printers. If you can let us know the size of labels you need and also the layout on the A4 Sheet we can then consult our tooling library to see if we already have what you’re looking for or may be able to offer you something very close.
However we are making new tools and cutters for A4 Labels on a daily basis so if it is a totally unique design and layout you need on the A4 labels then it is not a problem at all to get a new cutter to produce the job for you.
Yes we can, printed labels are completely custom printed by us for our clients. These labels can be printed using 1 colour or anything in between up to full colour process, which is full colour. Labels that are of custom designs can range from anything too anything depending on the business and product types. The most commonly ordered printed labels are company logo labels. Logo labels are used by name companies for obvious reason, for mailings, product labels, POS and much more. However printed labels can be customised to incorporate anything at all, such as chemical labels for example that will hold various warnings and vital content information and as suggested above these and all printed labels can be printed using 1 colour or full colour.
We have several machines that produce our custom printed labels and as a result of this no order is to big or in fact no order is too small on the other hand. Even in full colour you can order as little as 50 labels.
If you need any further clarification on this topic, feel free to contact us and a member of our custom printed label team will help you further.
Our in house bureau division has many years of experience in designing and printing product labels. We offer a service that from the start is easy and extremely straight forward, it doesn’t even matter if you have current artwork or designs or not. If no existing artwork is available to us then we offer a full design service to create the ideal printed labels you are looking for. Once the artwork is in place what we do at this stage is submit a full colour proof of the final labels, this will show you exactly how the finished printed label will look, from colour to shape, to size and style. Once you are happy to give the go ahead to print, we will then at this point create your plates; printing plates are used on our presses and produce the print in very fine detail and of the highest quality. Delivered to you, on time and when required, resulting in a happy customer.
We have three types of label printing presses, foil, flexo, and also digital. These presses basically offer us a choice of how to run your labels, if it was to be a small run of say 100 labels, then the digital or foil press may be the best option for us, this allows us to get the price very low for you, however if there are higher quantities required then the litho or flexo presses would come into action and drive the price down as we can run these much faster.
Contact one of our experienced members of the print division, they will be able to offer any assistance or help you may require.
Ok, there are two types of Thermal labels that’s we supply on rolls, one being Direct Thermal Labels which does not use any ribbons at all, the print is heated onto the special thermal direct label surface. The second option on labels on rolls would be Thermal transfer labels, now with this range of thermal labels you will need to use a ribbon.
Thermal ribbons are supplied by us for all printer make and models, they are a roll of black or coloured foil that go into your printer along with the thermal transfer roll of labels, the printer will then transfer the print onto your label from the ribbons.
The deep freeze adhesive material is what you are looking for and yes we supply this material from stock. The deep freeze adhesive material that Mercury Labels offer can withstand temperatures down to -40oc. This robust deep freeze adhesive can be supplied plain on A4 sheets for you to print on a laser printer or can be supplied on rolls for you to print on a thermal printer. This gives you the in-house flexibility to print the deep freeze adhesive labels yourself if you have lots of different sorts of texts or images. Alternatively we can print the deep freeze adhesive labels for you on rolls. The nature of the deep freeze label material ensures that the print does not run in freezer conditions when coming into contact with ice or moisture. This is important as the deep freeze label could be used for recording the contents or eat by dates for refrigerated items. The deep freeze label material adheres firmly and permanently to items that are already frozen also. Feel free to call one of our members of staff and they will be only too happy to discuss your requirements for the deep freeze label material.
In short we supply a large number of both, plain and also printed labels. If you need blank labels to print onto yourself then we can supply these labels from stock on A4 sheets, in continuous computer labels format and also on rolls for thermal labelling.
However if you require printed labels, where the print of your choice is already on the labels when you receive them then these would normally be supplied on rolls but we can also print labels on sheets and also on the sprocket fed computer labels if required.

We also offer off the shelf coloured labels available immediately of which we have 14 different colours to choose from such as, red, green, blue, yellow, pink, orange, cream, black and magenta, with either permanent or a low tack adhesive and we also stock metallic gold and silver labels.
In addition to these colours we have a very vibrant off the shelf option too, if you are looking for a colour to really stand out then our range of fluorescent labels or Day-Glo labels are available in red, green, yellow, pink and orange.
There is a solution, and we can help with this here at Mercury Labels. We have a block out material that covers up any text or image, it normally has a grey or black adhesive so that nothing can be seen through it once it has been applied. Don’t worry if your brochure is coloured, we can also colourwash the block out label material to any specific pantone reference so it totally blends in with the colour on the brochure. If new amended text needs to be on the block out label we also supply the labels pre printed, this is available on a white or a specific coloured back ground. Our in-house design team will provide a proof of the printed block out label for you to approve free of charge prior to printing to ensure the text or image on the block out label is 100% correct before we print for you. Yes, of course, we hold an extensive range of stock sizes in our warehouse for immediate despatch, most A4 laser labels are on the shelf and can be delivered on a next day insured courier service within the UK. We understand our customers may find themselves in this exact predicament so we take pride in pre-empting this problem for you, thus offering this off the shelf, stock, next day delivery service for you. This range of A4 laser labels includes the Avery equivalent label sizes and also the die cut and butt cut range.
We also offer a range of PCL labels from stock also on this very same next day availability.
We have several options of peelable labels available, standard low tack, super peelable and easy glass release adhesive, so it does depend on the products in particular.
We have a range of cling adhesive labels designed with glaziers in mind. These cling to the glass without sticking, therefore there is no residue.
Our sales team are on hand to talk through your needs to ensure that you get the most cost effective and best suited label for your needs.
Mercury Labels offer clear sealing labels with either a permanent or a low tack adhesive.
For your particular requirement the low tack adhesive clear seals would be ideal. The peelable adhesive labels can be applied to your products for sealing purposes and then removed without damaging the product or leaving any residue as the low tack adhesive is not aggressive at all.
The clear sealing labels in both permanent and removable adhesives are very popular within the mailing & despatch market sectors. These see through labels are supplied on rolls so are really easy to handle, also because the material is clear/see through, the images or text on your packaging will not be covered.
A weather-proof or waterproof label is what you need, a vinyl or polypropylene material would withstand the varying temperatures, we would also laminate your printed labels to ensure the print does not run. This sort of robust material is ideal for outside conditions. The adhesive is also a strong permanent adhesive so no problems with the label "coming off" outside either. The quality of the print on a gloss vinyl is also of a very high quality, ensuring you have the best image for your company as possible.
Yes we can print either static barcode labels where all the data remains the same from label to label or we also print consecutively numbered barcodes, usually in increments of one, so for example if you are looking for 5000 barcode labels which are all numbered differently you may start with number 0001 and ending with 5000.
You may also have a selection of different product lines that all require different barcode labels, again this is not a problem for us to produce as we do not have any minimum order quantities, therefore it does not matter to us if you need 100 of one type and 500 of another for example.
So in short it really does not matter if you require a short run or a long run of barcodes that are the same or different from one another, we can produce your barcode labels quite easily.
YES! We supply both thermal transfer and direct thermal labels in a standard white finish plus we offer them in coloured materials too.
You can choose from standard stock colours or even have the labels colour-washed to any colour option you require.
We have an extensive range of cutter sizes to produce thermal labels, so whatever size of label you are looking for we can help.
Thermal labels in colour are popular in most market sectors; they can be used for product ID, for stock rotation purposes, pricing of products and so on.

Plain matt white labels are still the most popular and are the most economical but we do have many other finishes available from stock such as gloss white, coloured, and also clear or polyester label finishes too.
Our range of glossy labels are suitable for both laser and inkjet printing, The inkjet finish is similar to photo quality gloss labels, with a high gloss finish that gives a perfect print. Gloss labels add value to your finished labels. For laser printing the A4 gloss labels we manufacture are available in both semi gloss and full high gloss finishes.

Our labels are tested to British standard, including rigorous sea water testing.
The range of weatherproof labels are designed to withstand temperatures as low as -20 degrees.
Other weatherproof labels we produce are paper based but are perfect for freezer conditions as they are designed to be just as effective at -40 degrees
We can supply your weatherproof labels to perfectly meet your needs, for example company branding, date stamps etc.
An integrated label is a label that is integrated within the A4 sheet. Unlike the A4 laser / inkjet labels that are labels cut into a full sheet of adhesive, with integrated labels the full sheet is not made of adhesive labels, it is an A4 sheet of normal paper that usually has one or two labels built into it on a panel or a patch that you can see form the back. Integrated labels are normally used as invoices or delivery notes, printed with the relevant delivery details and the label is then used to ship products or post the invoice, very popular with online catalogues and shopping sites as they save time in printing labels and duplicating that print onto invoices or shipping notes, integrated labels have the whole packet in one sheet and one print.
Please note, in addition to plain white integrated labels we also offer a full colour printed service. These labels can be printed to the face and to the back also. Obviously custom designed labels have a much greater impact with your customers, not only with your company logo and details but importantly with your terms and conditions printed on the reverse of the form, which for some companies is very important as these printed terms will hold instructions of returns and relevant policies.
If you are interested in obtaining pricing on custom printed integrated labels, please do not hesitate to contact our sales teams on 0845 026 4232, we are always happy to help.
A waterproof/weather-proof label is simply a label that’s protected from outdoor weather. This type of label is made from a water resistant material, which won’t allow the ink/artwork to run or incur damage from outdoor weather i.e. rain. Weather-proof/waterproof labels are mainly popular within the Horticulture sector due to their outdoor products however they can also be used indoors dependant on the products. The materials that we supply in this format are the Polyester, Polypropylene & Polyethylene (all waterproof/weather-proof).
Excellent printing results with most types of laser printers. Do not use with inkjet printers.

Ok, a die cut label is usually supplied on A4 Sheets, Die cut refers to the actual cutting of the label surface to produce the number of labels per page that you can peel off the A4 sheet, these labels always have rounded corners or radius corners to each label and sometimes a slight gap in between each row of labels on the sheet. A brand of labels that are all die cut in this fashion are Avery labels,, you will find Avery codes such as L7160, L7161, L7651 and so on, all of which are die cut labels.
Butt cut labels is pretty much as the term suggests, the labels are butted up to one another with no spacing. The labels on the butt cut A4 sheets also have square corners not round.
We supply both Avery equivalent die cut labels and also butt cut labels form stock.
Die cut labels basically means that the labels are die cut onto the A4 sheets using a Die Tool, this gives you rounded corners and a selvedge or a strip round each of the labels, very much like Avery labels,. Our products are not manufactured by Avery but they are made to the exact same sizes and positioning on the sheets and match up to the commonly used Avery codes you will find in many software package. With the Avery style labels that we supply being manufactured by us here at Mercury, we are unable to sell them to you as Avery labels, they are not, they are our own brand but they are all made and cut or ‘die cut’ to the exact same measurements.
Die cut labels or labels with round corners are probably one of the most popular ranges of labels with the A4 sheet label types, simple to use and easy to print onto A4 die cut labels are a great asset to any office or industrial situation. Over the past 10 years the price of A4 labels in general has decreased quite dramatically due to more efficient manufacturing operations and high levels of stock being shipped. We are pleased to be one of the leading companies and suppliers of this much loved range of labels.

Both wax ribbons and resin ribbons are ribbons for use through a thermal printer using Thermal Transfer Labels, some labels are known as direct thermal labels, these do not require a label, but all thermal transfer labels will need the use of a ribbon.
Wax ribbons are the most economical and the widest used ribbons, whilst resin ribbons are for those applications where a very durable and starch proof print is needed. Wax thermal ribbons are used in many industry sectors, from local shops to high turnover distribution companies. The wax ribbons are often used for shipping and distribution because the life span of the labels and the print is not required to last forever. Resin ribbons on the other hand as detailed above would give you a much more durable and reliable life spam of it's print, in conjunction with the correct thermal labels materials.
There is also now a mixture of the two formulas now known as a wax / resin ribbon. Wax resin ribbons are thermal ribbons that obviously are a blend of the two, they give a fantastic print and are cheaper than Full Resin ribbons whilst still giving a durable hard print onto your thermal transfer labels.
For the past 5 years we have grown our ribbon supplies considerably, we now stock all popular branded ribbons as well as many compatible cheaper items. The branded thermal ribbons we stock are for use in Zebra Printers, Sato printer, Tex printers, Datamax printers, to mention a few. Give our sales team a call for further information on any thermal ribbons or any help you may need.
