Thermal ribbons are sometimes referred to as foil or thermal foil, they are simply black type ribbons that are supplied on rolls and  for use with thermal transfer labels.

The thermal printer print head will press onto the ribbon and then this will transfer onto the label surface giving you the required print.

There are numerous types of thermal ribbons available, all vary in quality of print from standard Wax ribbons right through to Full Resin ribbons.

Wax ribbons are the most common of all the thermal ribbons and the most economical. Wax resin ribbons are a mixture of wax and resin and have a harder finish, as a result giving a longer lasting print. Full resin ribbons are slightly more expensive but give you a great end result that is completely scratch proof and very durable.
